Is this something you struggle with?
You may have found yourself failing in school, work, and in your relationships. You may find yourself to be inattentive, distracted, preoccupied, impulsive, inattentive, daydreaming and dissatisfied with your predicament. You may currently be in treatment and could possibly be misdiagnosed with anxiety, bipolar disorder, or a number of other psychiatric disorders.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a common psychiatric problem. Sometimes symptoms in adults may seem complex and not as clear-cut as symptoms in children. Diagnosing ADHD will require an evaluation form a licensed mental health professional. Rating scales and psychological tests could be used to determine if you meet criteria for this diagnosis. Detailed history of the person’s behavior and childhood experiences will be taken during the evaluation. Interviewing partners, spouses, parents and other associates may be necessary.
If you have attention deficit/hyperactivity problems for long time and could not figure out what was wrong you may have developed negative feelings about yourself over the years. In these situations being properly diagnosed could bring sense of relief and understanding about the reasons of your behavior. Starting treatment will allow you to deal with your problems more effectively. Treatment for ADHD may require psychotherapy and psychiatric medication.
